First Phase of Metro Rail by 2008: YSR

Hyderabad, Jun 1 (UNI) The first section of Hyderabad Metro Rail Project would become a reality by December 2008 with Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy suggesting the officials to commence work on the project by December 2006.

He was reviewing the status of Multi Modal Transport System (MMTS) and Hyderabad MRTS (Metro Rail) project with officials of Municipal Administration, Railways, RTC and Finance Departments here today.

Dr Reddy hoped the preparation of all Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), firming up costs and financial returns for MRTS, would be completed by June ten and Cabinet approval sought by June end.

The investors meet (prequalied consortia) would be on June 15 and preparation of technical and financial bid documents over and the project documents sent to the Union Government by June 30.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail Corporation (HMRC) is scheduled to be formed in first week of August. Simultaneously the identification and earmarking of government lands for stations, depots and workshops completed by July end.

The financial bids are targeted to be evaluated by October 20 and opened in the first week of 2006. The work would commence in the last week of December 2006.

Though Metro rail is a complex project, the Chief Minister has instructed the officials to expedite pre-construction activities and carry them out in parallel processing mode.

He directed that the construction activity should commence by this year-end and the first section opened by December,2008.
