Early monsoon settles down in South Gujarat
Surat, June 1 (UNI) South Gujarat today experienced an early beginning of the monsoon, which normally reaches the state by the mid of June.
Yesterday's mild showers became a heavy downpour by this evening.
''Normally monsoon arrives by mid-June, but this year it seems that it has reached earlier,'' said a district official.
He said that talukas such as Bardoli, Vyara, Valod and Nijar experienced relatively good rains till 0800 hrs.
''Bardoli got 27 mm rains and Vyara got 35 mm rains, which is relatively good rainfall,'' he said.
The highest rainfall was recorded in Nijar (107 mm) till 0800 hrs.
According to the district officials, Surat city recorded a total rainfall of 11 mm till 0800 hrs.
The rainfall recorded in other talukas till 0800 hrs was Choriyasi (08 mm), Kamrej (10 mm), Mahuva (02 mm), Mandvi (08 mm), Mangrol (04 mm), Olpad (10 mm), Palsana (03 mm), Sonagadh (11 mm), Uchchal (02 mm), Umrapada (03 mm) and Valod(19 mm).
