C'garh to get higher allocation under PMGSY

New Delhi, June 1 (UNI) Union Minister for Rural Development Raghuvansh Prasad Singh today directed his officials to release immediately the funds payable to Chhattisgarh Government under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), withheld so far.

The direction came when Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh met the Union Minister here to plead for the release of the remaining funds due to the state under the scheme,according to a release issued here by the Chhattisgarh Information Centre.

The Union Minister announced to give higher allocation of funds to the State this year being pleased with its good peformance under the PMGSY,the release said.

The Chief Minister told the Union Minister that Rs 1150 crores was still due to be paid to the state government after the initial payments made to the state under the schemes.He wanted immediate release of at least fifty per cent of the balance amount of funds.

The Union Minister,according to the release,also assured the Chief Minister that he would take expeditious action to accord approval to the eight special projects worth Rs 79 crores 48 lakhs pending with the Union Government under the Swarn Jayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana. These projects would help augment opportunities for self employment in rural areas.
