Centre sanctions Rs 48 crore for rural electrification

Chandigarh, June 1 (UNI) The Centre has sanctioned Rs 48.48 crore under the 'Rajiv Gandhi Vidyutikarn Yojna' for various power development works in Sonipat, Panipat, Rohtak and Karnal districts in Haryana.

A spokesman for the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) today said the scheme, run by the Rural Electrification Corporation, would cover as many as 1,070 villages.

There had been a provision of 90 per cent subsidy on the implementation of various schemes like improvement of power distribution system and installation of distribution transformers and 11 KV lines, he said.

It had been planned to provide 49,198 domestic connections in the villages to the people living below poverty line (BPL). The connections would be provided free of cost to the applicants under the scheme and the Nigam would get 100 per cent subsidy for the purpose, he added.

He said 1437 km long 11 KV lines and 368 km long new tension lines would be erected and 987 distribution transformers would be installed under the scheme. The meters would also be installed on the distribution transformers.

The spokesman said the Nigam had given highest priority to the project which would be completed in a year.

He said the 'voluntary disclosure of load' scheme and 'out of court settlement' scheme had evoked good response. The Nigam regularised above 170 MW load of 56,739 applicants without penalty.

The applicants deposited Rs 114.93 lakh as advanced consumption deposit. As many as 583 cases had been settled out of court. The consumers paid Rs 2.44 crore to the Nigam to get their long pending cases settled, he added.
