Centre notifies 8 NHs
Chennai, Jun 1 (UNI) Eight new National Highways (NHs), including two in Tamil Nadu, have been notified by the Centre, Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways' T R Baalu said today.
Addressing a press conference here, he said in Tamil Nadu the 144 km long road between Thanjavur and Manamadurai was notifed as NH 226 and the 135 km long Trichy-Chidambaram road was declared as NH 227.
Earlier these roads formed part of the State Highway 24 and 25.
With this notification a total length of 1,551 km had been added to the National Highways network.
The other new National Highways are : Eastern Peripherals Expressway around Delhi (134 km), Srinagar-Leh Road (422 km), Ahmedabad-Dandi (374 km), Lucknow-Rae Bareilly-Allahabad (185 km), Burdwan-Bolpur road near Santiniketan (52 km) and Dehri-Akbarpur- Jadunathpur on the Bihar-Uttar Pradesh border (105 km).
He said the Union Cabinet also approved four laning of NH 210 connecting Tiruchirapalli and Ramanathapuram via Pudukkottai, Karakudi, Devakottai, Tiruvadanai and Ramnad.
''We have already ordered preparation of the Detailed Project Report and the project will be taken up shortly,'' he added.
