Jagatsingpur, Orissa, Jun 1 (UNI) The movement against the mega steel project by the South Korea steel major POSCO has been intensified with the villagers blocking to block the entry points to the site at many places to prevent the entry of police and the district officials.

Anticipating that the state government would issue notices of land acquisition for the steel project, considered to be the biggest FDI in the country, the anti-POSCO agitators have erected check posts at various points in the villages to restrict the entry of the officials.

Kujang police station Officer-In-Charge Amarendra Panda said the locals had intensified their opposition to the Rs 51,000 crore steel project in their area since May first week.

The villagers, were not giving any chance either to the vehicles of the district administration or the law enforcing agencies to enter into the village to take stock of the situation and issue notification to the villagers for acquiring land for the project, he said.

The women opposing the POSCO plant were seen guarding the entry point of the village roads on a regular basis to check the entry of the officials to their village, Superintendent of Police in charge of Jagatsinghpur Suresh Palsania said.
