AIADMK legislator surrenders, secures bail

Chennai, June 1 (UNI) A day after a criminal case was slapped, former AIADMK Minister and legislator K Pandurangan today surrendered before a Metropolitan Magistrate court and secured bail.

Mr Pandurangan presented himself before Ms Thirumagal, Seventh Metropolitan Magistrate, George Town, about 1530 hrs. The Magistrate recorded his surrender and granted him unconditional bail.

Police had slapped a case against Mr Pandurangan yesterday for allegedly preventing the police officers from discharging their duty.

Mr Pandurangan, elected to the State Assembly from Anaicut constituency in Vellore, vehemently argued with the police at the entrance when the suspended AIADMK legislators were denied entry into the Secretariat complex on May 30.

During the course of heated arguments, Mr Pandurangan had allegedly threatened the police officials and prevented them from discharging their duties, police said.

On a complaint received from the Sub-Inspector of Police on duty at the Secretariat entrance, cases under Sec 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint) and 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the IPC were registered against Mr Pandurangan.
