39 dead, 60 injured in UP storms

Lucknow, June 1 (UNI) At least 39 people were reported killed and over 60 injured in widespread storms, that hit Mirzapur, Allahabad and Bhadohi districts of Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hrs.

The met office today said several trees were uprooted and lightning struck at many places in the eastern UP region yesterday when the storm hit with a velocity of 100 kms/hr.

Allahabad, Bhadohi and Mirzapur districts accounted for 13, 14 and 12 deaths respectively.

Meanwhile, the humidity levels were quite high in UP, that made the weather sultry and uncomfortable.

The maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius was recorded at Allahabad and Jhansi. The mercury was recorded at 38.8 degrees in Lucknow one degree below normal.

The weatherman has forecast velocity winds and thundershowers in the next 24 hrs in UP.
