Vasant Painter passes away
Kolhapur, May 31 (UNI) Renowned Marathi and Hindi film producer and director Vasantrao Anandrao Painter passed away here today of old age.
He was 93 and is survived by six daughters and a son.
The nonagenarian producer and director had been admitted to a private hospital four days back, family sources said.
Vasant Painter, as he was popularly known in the Marathi film industry, started his film career in 1947 when he directed a Hindi film ''Gokul'' that was produced by the Prabhat Film Company.
Thereafter, he produced and directed several Marathi and Hindi films and earned a name for himself in the industry.
During his lifetime, he had received nine awards, including the prestigious V Shantaram award.
Among the prominent Marathi films directed by him were ''Varnecha Wagh'', ''Sugandhi Katta'', ''Teela Lavte Me Raktacha'', ''Bara Varshe Saha Mahine Teen Divas'', ''Jakhmee Wagheen'', and ''Sada Haldi Kunkwacha''. Apart from ''Gokul'', the other Hindi films directed by him included ''Sidha Rasta'', ''Sati Ahilya'', ''Murliwala'', ''Sajani'', and ''Patit Pawan''.
