Protest outside labour offices in Delhi
New Delhi, May 31 (UNI) The Centre of Indian Trade Unions organised protests in front of regional offices of the Labour Department here today against officials callous towards problems faced by labourers in the capital.
''The owners of factories, shops and establishments have not been issuing appointment letters, do not maintain wage registers and do not provide PF and ESI benefits to employees. The hire and fire system is rampant in Delhi.
''Despite several complaints from unions, the labour department officials have not been implementing labour laws and are not initiating criminal prosecution against violators,'' CITU General Secretary Mohan Lal said.
Later, CITU leaders presented memoranda to the Deputy Labour Commissioners of the areas, demanding strengthening of inspection by the department officials and implementation of labour laws.
