Naxalite, dacoit killed in UP encounters
Lucknow, May 31 (UNI) A naxalite and a notorious dacoit were killed in separate encounters in Uttar Pradesh since last night, police said today.
State Director General of Police (DGP) Bua Singh said dreaded dacoit Shanker Kewat was killed in an encounter in the forests of Simhaur in Fatehpur district this afternoon.
Kewat was wanted in over a dozen cases and was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000. Police also recovered a double-barrel gun.
In Sonebhadra district, a joint team of district police and the CRP gunned down a naxalite and arrested his female accomplice last night.
''Jayprakash Dhangar was gunned down in village Mahuli. His accomplice Neelam alias Sangeeta was arrested after the encounter,'' the DGP said.
A .303 bore rifle looted from cops in November, 2004 and a US-made semi-automatic rifle stolen after the killing of Raja of Vijaygarh, a few yrs ago, was also recovered.
