Navy presents Rs 22 lakh cheque to J

Srinagar, May 31 (UNI) Indian Navy's Chief of Personnel Vice Admiral N K Verma today called on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and presented a cheque of Rs 22 lakh for distribution among the relatives of the school children who drowned in the Wullar Lake yesterday.

An official spokesman said that amount was presented by Vice Admiral Verma on behalf of the Defence Ministry.

An amount of Rs one lakh each would be distributed among the next of kin of the children who lost their lives in the tragedy.

The Chief Minister handed over the cheque to the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Basharat Ahmed for immediate distribution among the bereaved families.

Vice Admiral Verma also conveyed grief on behalf of the Indian Navy to the bereaved families.

''The entire Indian Navy shares the grief with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the bereaved families,'' he added.
