Marxist leader Ramani passes away

Coimbatore, May 31 (UNI) Senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader K Ramani passed away at his residence here last night after prolonged illness.

He was 91. He is survived by two daughters and a son.

Mr Ramani was former national vice president of the Centre of Industrial Trade Unions (CITU).

The deceased leader represented Coimbatore East Constituency in the Lok Sabha from 1967-71. He also won four consecutive assembly elections in 1977, 1980, 1984, and 1989.

He also served as the pro tem Speaker of the ninth Assembly.

According to party sources, the CPI (M) state secretary N Varadarajan and other party leaders will pay homage to the departed leader. The cremation will be held in the evening, sources said UNI KS YA GC1048
