Lavrov, Rice discuss Iranian nuclear problem
Moscow, May 31: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice have discussed the long-standing crisis around Iran's controversial nuclear programme.
''There was a continued discussion of the situation around Iran's nuclear programme in the light of upcoming multilateral contacts on the issue,'' Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The telephonic conversation which took place yesterday was a follow-up to another phone conversation between Mr Lavrov and Ms Rice last Sunday, as they stepped up consultations on the Iranian issue ahead of a tomorrow's meeting in Vienna with their counterparts from China, France, Germany and Britain.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President George Bush also called for further development of international efforts to settle the Iranian nuclear issue in a telephone conversation yesterday.
