Infy to increase headcount in China by 150 per cent

New Delhi, May 31 (UNI) Infosys Technologies Ltd, India's second-largest software services exporter, today said it plans to expand its base in China and intends to increase its work force by 150 per cent.

This was announced by Infosys Technologies Chief Operating Officer (COO) Kris Gopalakrishnan at a press meet here.

''China is a significant market and brings huge opportunites for Indian companies. We have already a development center in Shanghai with over 500 employees. We plan to increase the headcount by 1,000 by the end of this year and plan to increase it to 5,000 in the next two-three years,'' Mr Gopalakrishnan said.

The base in China will cater to the domestic market as well as the neighbouring countries like Korea which have a similar language.
