Addressing a press conference here after signing the MoU, Executive Sirector of BHEL Dr V Gopalakrishnan said the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of the joint research and the cost of maintaining the patents would be shared by both the institutions, unless otherwise specifically agreed upon.

He said BHEL would provide the research facilities and laboratories to the students to carry out their research works and had agreed in principle to give stipend to the research students.

NIT Director M Chidambaram said the institution was already offering M Tech, M S and PH D programmes in 22 disciplines with an intake of 20 each and would further increase its seats on each discipline as soon as they get clearance from the Union Human Resources Development ministry.
