64 teams for Bankim Cup inter school tournament

Kolkata, May 31 (UNI) Altogether 64 schools from the state will participate in this year's Milo Bankim cup Inter School Tournament from June two to 26.

IFA Secretary Subrata Dutta, who announced this today, said '' The tournament received tremendous response last year. The immense popularity of this tournament has ushered in newer sponsors this year.'' The teams will be divided in 16 groups. The first phase will be played on league basis. Altogether 16 teams will qualify for the next phase, which will be on knockout basis. Total number of matches would be 111.

''The purpose of this tournament is to foster involvement of various schools in football and generate interest amongst the teenagers for the promotion of the game. Thus, not only this state but the country will also be gifted with a bunch of good footballers in near future. In order to have good competition, the schools will henceforth give efforts to build up good players of the game,'' Mr Dutta said.

The winners will receive the Champion Trophy and cash prize of Rs 30,000 and the Runners up will receive A Trophy and A cash prize of Rs 20,000.

The venues for the tournament are Khamargachi stadium, Hooghly, Vidyasagar Krirangan, Ushumpur at Agarpara, Howrah Municipal Stadium, Bidhan Nagar Municipal Sports Complex (two grounds) and Bandhudal Club Ground, Saguna, Nadia.
