18 killed, over 50 injured in UP cyclone

Varanasi, May 31 (UNI) At least 18 people, including women and children, were killed and over 50 injured in a cyclone that hit Mirzapur and Bhadohi districts of Uttar Pradesh this evening.

All the injured have been admitted to hospitals in Varanasi and Allahabad, Superintendent of Police Mahavir Prasad said.

The cyclone was centered at Bhadohi and Gyanpur, which has brought the entire communication and power set up to a complete halt.

Several houses were damaged and scores of trees uprooted in the cyclone, Mr Prasad said.
