UPA govt soft on terrorism, failed on Kashmir policy: BJP

New Delhi, May 30: The BJP today charged the UPA government with going soft on terrorism, failing in checking Maoist violence and drawing a blank on its Kashmir policy.

''The management of the national security has cast serious doubt on the commitment and approach of the UPA government. In its bid to pursue vote bank politics the government has deliberately chosen to go soft on terror,'' the BJP said in its political resolution adopted at the end of two-day national Executive meet here.

It said that the UPA government repealed anti-terrorism law POTA in favour of softer regime for terrorists including easier bail provisions.

Charging the government policy on Kashmir with drawing a complete blank, the BJP said that the recent roundtable conference on the Kashmir issue was not attended by most people as they felt it served no useful purpose. The BJP did not attend it as it doubts the government's intention to fight terrorism, the resolution said.

Groups in the Kashmir Valley and several organisations from Jammu and Ladakh have expressed doubts in view of the government's loss of credibility in taking forward any serious Kashmir negotiations, BJP observed.

It also accused the government of failing to check spread of Maoist menace in the country by adopting a soft approach towards them. The Congress entered into a political arrangement with several Maoist groups and as a result, post election they adopted a soft approach to Maoist activity in Andhra Pradesh.

Charging the UPA government with pursuing minoritysm even if it threatened national security, the BJP said that the government continue to pursue the mindless policy of giving a fillip to the demographic invasion of India from Bangladesh.

It said that despite the Supreme Court quashing the IMDT Act, the government promulgated an ordinance which shifted the resonsibility to the government tribunals to prove that a foreigner is not an Indian.
