Kolkata, May 30 (UNI) The much-talked-about second Vivekananda bridge on the river Hooghly will be opened to traffic by April 2007, with no cost overrun during the past three years of its construction period.

Being built at the cost of Rs 1000 crore, including 120 crore as government grant, the project had been taken up by the Second Vivekananda Bridge Tollway Company Private Limited, a conglomerate of seven major private sector engineering companies across the world, including from the USA, Japan and Phillipines.

The 800-mt-long bridge with six-lane highway on each side was termed an engineering marvel by the experts.

Being constructed using state-of-the-art technology, the bridge has a top class safety record with only one report of minor accident during the past three years.

Speaking more about the issue, Company Chairman S.Chakravarty said here today that he had already set up two separate committees to go into the causes of the unfortunate incident and both committees would submit their reports by next month.
