Saina loses in qualifiers of Indonesia Open

New Delhi, May 30 (UNI) Saina Nehwal's bid to prove her worth in a six-star event came crashing down as she failed to make it to the Indonesia Open Badminton Championship main draw losing in the qualifying rounds of women's singles at Surabaya, East Java today.

The 16-year-old Hyderabadi, who became the first Indian woman to win a four star event in the Philippine Open on Sunday, was sent packing 17-21, 21-23 in her second qualifying round match by Yuan Kartika of Indonesia, according to information received here.

Saina got a walkover in the first match against Fiona Mckee of Canada.

None of the other Indian girls could get past the qualifying round.

Teenager Sayali Gokhale, who upset world number 29 Anna Rice of Canada in the first round of Philippines Open, lost to local Aprilia Yuswandari 18-21, 21-17, 21-18, while Ruth Misa went down fighting to Weny Rahmawati of France 15-21, 8-21 18-21.

Aditi Mutatkar was no match for Li Chen of China and the Indian lost 10-21, 10-21 while Cheda Kadambari caved in to Melica Kurniawan 18-21, 11-21.

Jwala Gutta lost in the second qualifying round to Atu Rosalina of Indonesia 13-21 16-21 after winning the first.

In the men's singles, Rohan Castelino and J Vidyadhar cleared the first qualifying matches and will play their final qualifying round matches for berth in the main draw.

Meanwhile, Chetan Anand, Anup Sridhar, Arvind Bhat, Anand Pawar, P Kashyap have got a direct entry to the main draw.
