Quota stir: JIPMER Hospital docs go on strike
Pondicherry, May 30: Work at the centrally-administered JIPMER Hospital was severely hit today as resident doctors and PG students went on a 48-hour strike to express solidarity with doctors agitating against the Centre's proposed 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in institutions of higher education.
Only the emergency ward was functioning. All Heads of Departments reached the hospital for morning rounds.
However, the out patient department did not function at all and the patients from faraway places in adjoining Tamil Nadu had to leave returned without being treated.
The striking doctors later held a demonstration before the hospital reception.
