POA elections after receicving clarifications from IOA: Dhindsa

Chandigarh, May 30 (UNI) Punjab Olympic Association (POA) president and former Union Sports Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa today reiterated that state's apex sports body would be held as soon as certain clarifications sought from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) were received.

Talking to newsmen at the release of a sports magazine in Punjabi -- Khed Sansar --- here today, Mr Dhindsa said, ''We are prepared to conduct elections of the new office-bearers any time''. POA has written to the IOA seeking opinion on the status of the appointment of ex-officio members to the district Olympic associations and other sports bodies, he added.

''As soon as we receive reply from the IOA, the POA will hold elections for the new office-bearers, " he revealed.

The IOA has written letters to all its affiliated units directing them to do away with the appointment of the ex-officios to district Olympic associations and other sports bodies.

Another clarification sought by the POA is regarding the state units that can cast votes in case of elections.

Mr Dhindsa also disclosed that the POA would felicitate the Punjab players who had won medals in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
