PCC blames LF for not implementing NREGS properly

Kolkata, May 30 (UNI) West Bengal Congress today charged the CPI (M)-led Left Front government with "failing" to implement the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) properly in the state.

The state government had not taken the NREGS seriously and was not attaching much importance to it thereby depriving the poor of the benefits of the scheme, WBPCC working president Pradip Bhattacharjee alleged during a press conference here.

He also alleged that except Bengal all the states had taken the scheme seriously.

" We have already informed the Centre in this regard, " Mr Bhattacharjee said.

Referring to the Left protest against the Centre's proposed fuel hike, Mr Bhattacharjee said the state government was unnecessarily blaming the Centre for the hike because international fuel prices had gone up.

The petrol prices could be reduced if the state government reduced sales tax, he added.

The state government should discuss with the Centre in this regard, he said.
