Fisherman's body recovered; death toll at 6

Malpe (Karnataka), May 30: The body of one more fishermen of the eight reported missing since Sunday last after venturing into the sea from here in Udupi district, was recovered today, taking the toll to two, while the remaining were feared dead.

Sources told sources the body was recovered at Kota in Udupi district and the deceased hailed from Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district.

Efforts were on to trace the other six missing persons.

Of the eight reported missing, the body of one was recovered at Kodikanyana near Kundapura in Udupi district yesterday and the government had announced Rs one lakh ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased.

Meanwhile, Coast Guard personnel rescued six fishermen stranded in the waters in their boat as the sea was rough following incessant rain in the coastal areas of the state. They reached ashore through the New Mangalore Port. Several fishing boats were still stranded in the sea.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy was scheduled to pay a visit here later in the day to take stock of the situation.
