NE gets Rs.1,329 crore from DoNER in two years

Shillong, May (UNI) The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has released Rs.1,329 crore in the last two years for various projects in the region under its flagship Scheme of Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR).

The release constitutes 36 per cent of the total releases made since the inception of the scheme in 1998-99, a government release said here today.

DoNER has sanctioned 187 projects under the NLCPR since its upgradation to a ministry in 2004 by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

These projects amount to 24 per cent of the total 767 projects sanctioned since the commencement of the NLCPR.

The large number of projects could be sanctioned for the region due to streamlining of the process for approval of projects under the scheme. A custom-made software has been developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for monitoring the NLCPR projects.

The money, released by the ministry, include 36 projects at total cost of Rs.400.85 crore for development of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) areas in Asom. A project has also been carried out in the state at a cost of Rs.55.10 crore for creation of the main athletic stadium complex and a multi-purpose indoor hall in Guwahati for the National Games 2005.

Another important project taken up during the last two years was the Waithou Pat Water Supply Scheme for Thoubal district in Manipur that came at a total cost of Rs.59.71 crore.

Three important projects were taken up in Tripura that include the Rokhia Gas based Thermal power project, the Government Medical College and Hospital and the state level Para-Medical Institute at Agartala. These three projects had cost Rs.80.94 crore, Rs. 88.55 crore and Rs.14.07 crore respectively.

Four major road projects have been taken up at a total cost of Rs.105.54 crore in Nagaland, while thirteen roads and bridges projects, costing Rs.179.89 crore, were sanctioned for Arunachal Pradesh during the period.
