Medicos continue strike in HP

Shimla, May 30 (UNI) The medical college students and resident doctors strike against reserving 27 per cent seats in higher educational institutions for the OBCs continued today with students boycotting their classes and doctors staying away from the hospitals.

The strike in Indira Gandhi Medical College, Dr RP Medical College at Tanda in Kangra district and Rajiv Gandhi Ayurveda College at Paprola and six other medical colleges of Himachal Pradesh was complete and peaceful today, Resident Doctors Association (RDA) President Rajesh Sood said.

He said their indefinite strike against the Central Government's proposal to reserve 27 per cent seats in higher educational institutions was continuing and a meeting of medical college students and RDA representatives would be held tomorrow to chalk out its future course of action after the today's verdict of the Supreme Court on the issue.

The medical college students chain hunger strike just outside the IGMC continued today and an Himachal Medical Officers Association (HMOA) official said here that the agitation would continue unless the government dropped the proposal.

Mr Sood said the RDA were also organising parallel OPDs in besides the 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs emergency services being run by the doctors in the IGMC.
