Major administrative reshuffle in Bengal

Kolkata, May 30 (UNI) In a major reshuffle about 70 senior police officers in West Bengal were today transferred to different areas.

Incidentally, this is the first administrative reshuffle of the seventh Left Front government, which assumed its office on May 18.

According to official sources, among the senior officers, who were transferred to different posts are additional commissioner of police Gautam Chakraborty would now be Additional Director General of police and the Inspector General of Police of Telecom, while, Mr V V Thampi, Inspector General of Police (traffic) would now become the IGP (pollution control).

Mr Gangeshwar Singh, the Deputy Inspector General of Midnapore range would now become the new DIG headquarters in Kolkata.

Among others are Mr P N Ramesh, DIG Jalpaiguri has now become the DIG Bureau of Investigation.

Mr Ajay Sharma another senior police official, who was the DC Headquarters till today, would now take over the charge of DIG Burdwan range, while Mr Basudeb Bag, the DIG (IB) would now become the DIG (planning and welfare).

Mr Akhil Kumar Roy, who was the SP of Howrah district, has been transferred to become the Controller of Civil Defence.
