Karwar records highest 439.8 mm rain

Bangalore, May 30 (UNI) Following is a summary of observations recorded at 0830 hours today.

Karwar recorded the heaviest rainfall of 439.8 mm in 24 hours which surpassing the previous record of 210.2 mm on May 22, 1961.

The conditions are favorable for further advance of southwest monsoon over remaining parts of North Interior Karnataka during next 48 hours. Monsoon was vigorous over Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka. Rainfall occurred at many places over North Interior Karnataka.

Other very heavy rainfall amounts (cm) : Ankola 36; Kadra 22; Puttur 16; Sulya, Siddapura 15 each; Belthangadi, Subramanya 14 each; Kundapur, Dharmasthala, Mangalore Airport, Shirali 13 each.

Heavy rainfall amounts (cm): Mani 12; Yellapura, Madikeri, Mudibidre 11 each; Panambur, Honavar, Kumta 10 each; Mulki, Hosanagar, Thirthahalli, Linganamakki 9 each; Bantwal, Bhatkal, Joida, Kalasa, Mudigere 8 each; Mundagod, Siddapura, Sirsi, Talaguppa, Sakleshpura 7 each.

Maximum temperatures changed little and appreciably below normal at most places being markedly so at a few places over North Interior Karnataka. Raichur recorded highest maximum temperature of 35.7 degree celsius over the State.

Forecast valid until Thursday morning : Rain/thundershowers likely to occur at most places over the State.

Farmers forecast : Heavy to very heavy rain may occur at most places over all the districts of Coastal Karnataka; ghat areas of South Interior Karnataka and Belgaum district of North Interior Karnataka.

Moderate to heavy rain may occur at most places over remaining districts of North Interior Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka.

Heavy rainfall warning: Very heavy rain may occur at a few places over Coastal Karnataka and ghat areas of South Interior Karnataka and Belgaum district of North Interior Karnataka during next 48 hours. Heavy rain may also occur at isolated places over remaining areas of North Interior Karnataka during the same period.

Forecast for Bangalore city: Generally cloudy. Intermittent spells of light rain. Strong surface winds, gusty at times.
