IT, metals scrips boost sensex to open in green
Mumbai, May 30: Despite mixed trends on the BSE in the morning session, in an ultimate analysis the index points towards north.
Boosted by the performance of several major constituents of the Sensex, Reliance Industries (RIL), Infosys and L&T, as well as IT, metal and construction scrips, BSE at 1027 hrs was up 37 points, on 10,890. It even touched a higher level of 10,916 points in early trade. However, the performance of banking stocks were subdued.
At 1122 hrs the Sensex was up 95 points, on 10,948. It also reached a high of 10,952.47.
At 1230 hrs the sensex was up by 127 points at 10,980.75 points.
RIL gained 1.3 per cent to Rs 969, Infosys rose nearly 1 per cent to Rs 2,993, Satyam Computer rose 1.5 per cent to Rs 716.30, Wipro rose 0.7 per cent to Rs 474. Four block deals of 5.4 lakh shares each were executed by wipro in the stock on BSE at a price ranging between Rs 467 and Rs 474.
L&T's upward move was guided by a 2,600 crore contract for a naphtha cracker project at Indian Oil Corporation's Panipat complex.
