New Delhi, May 30 (UNI) Laden with relief material worth Rs 1 crore, INS Tabar of the Indian Navy sailed this evening from Chennai to render assistance to the quake-affected people of Indonesia who were hit by a 6.3 richter temblor on May 27.

In keeping with the commitment made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who had announced aid worth 2 million US Dollars (Rs 9.2 crore approximately) to Indonesia, relief material and medical assistance worth Rs 6 crore has already been dispatched through aircraft and INS Rajput, said an official spokesman here.

An Indian Air Force IL-76 aircraft had left here yesterday carrying a 35-tonne load of relief material comprising emergency medicines, tents, ready-to-cook food, blankets, water-proof tarpaulins and the like.

In addition, naval vessel INS Rajput -- which was in the vicinity as part of the Eastern Fleet Task Force on an Overseas Deployment in the South China Sea -- had been diverted to Jakarta.

The naval ship was carrying about seven tonnes of relief and medical stores, including medicines, rice, tea and sugar collected from sister vessels which were also in the area.

In addition, the naval vessel had on board a six-person medical team comprising two doctors and four medical assistants to render assistance as desired.
