Hingis makes winning return to French Open

PARIS, May 30 (Reuters) Former world number one Martina Hingis made a winning return to the French Open today with a 6-2 6-2 first round victory over American Lisa Raymond.

The Swiss 12th seed was making her first appearance at Roland Garros since losing to Jennifer Capriati in the semi-finals five years ago.

She will meet either Czech Zuzana Ondraskova or Germany's Julia Schruff in the second round.

Hingis arrived in Roland Garros a week after winning the Italian Open, her first WTA title since returning to competitive action from a three-year absence.

Raymond made 15 unforced errors in the first set and was completely outclassed by Hingis. The Swiss took the match in 54 minutes.
