Heavy rains paralyse normal life in Goa

Panaji, May 30 (UNI) Normal life was paralysed in Goa for the second consecutive day as heavy rains accompanied by strong winds continued to lash the state for the second consecutive day today.

The state has received about 68.8 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours.

The weather bureau has forecast rain or thunder showers accompanied by strong gusty winds. Winds, in gust or squall, will be westerly to north-westerly with speed ranging from 45 to 55 kmph.

The sea was expected to be rough with westerly waves. Precautionary Signal No 3 was hoisted at all ports from Varodara to Mormugao.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Fisheries has warned fishermen of rough weather conditions and advised them not to venture into the sea for the next 48 hours.

As per the notice issued by the Directorate, ''The monsoon is advancing towards Goa at a fast pace and weather in the next few days is likely to be rough and wind speeds and swells are likely to pick up. The boats are likely to capsize in such weather conditions.'' UNI BM SSS LR KP2148
