Chandigarh, May 30 (UNI) Medical services in most of the government and private medical colleges in Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory of Chandigarh were hit on the 16th consecutive day today as resident doctors and medical students continued their stir against reservation.

Medical services were affected in PGIMER, Government Medical College and Hospital and Government Hospital here. Students of GMCH burnt their degree. A bandh was obeserved in response to a call given by 'Youths For Equality' a frontal organisation of medical students, resident doctors and other associations. Resident doctors and medical students from PGIMER and GMCH, Dental Collge, students from Panjab University, Punjab Engineering College and various other organisations today blocked the Chandigarh-Dehli and Chandigarh-Ludhiana roads.

In Amritsar, medical services were affected at Guru Nanak Hospital, SGPC run Guru Ram Dass Institute of Medical Services and Research following the strike by residents doctors and students.

Medical services at Dayananad Medical College (DMC), Lord Mahavira Homoeopathy Institute and Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College in Ludhiana were badly affected as strike by medical students and resident doctors continued. However, Christian Medical College (CMC) continued to function normally.

Medical services at PGIMS, Rohtak were hit as resident doctors and medical students continued with their strike. In a new development, nearly 18 heads of different khaps in a panchayat passed the following resolution--reservation be given on the basis of ecomomical conditions, instead of reservation, students of backward castes be given free education and all the politician of the country must be treated by reserve category doctors.

In Patiala, the OPD services were affected as medical students, with interns and junior doctors of Government Medical College, Government Ayurvedic College, Government Dental College and Government Rajindra Hospital continued with their anti-quota agitation.
