Fierce encounter between militants and troops going on in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 30 (UNI) A fierce encounter was on between the militants holed up inside a house and security forces at Tral in south Kashmir since early this morning, a defence ministry spokesman said.

He said troops of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Border Security Force (BSF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at Tral, about 40 km from here early this morning following information that some militants were hiding there.

He said when the troops were about to storm a particular house, militants opened fire and also lobbed hand grenades.

They retaliated after militants refused to surrender, he said, adding it is believed that two to three militants were inside the house.

He said the house from where militants were firing had caught fire and there was no firing from inside for the past some time.

Troops will go inside the damaged house after they are sure that all the holed up militants are dead, the sources added.
