Beijing, May 30: China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC), the country's largest nuclear reactor builder, has formed an engineering arm to handle overseas orders, the official China Daily reported today.

China Nuclear Engineering Co, launched in Beijing at the weekend, was negotiating with Pakistan to build a third reactor for the South Asian neighbour, the newspaper said.

The new venture would help CNNC cut costs as the state-run firm previously had to set up an individual engineering and construction team for each new project.

CNNC has already completed a 300 MW reactor in Pakistan and is building a second with the same capacity, which is due to start generating power in about five years, the newspaper said, quoting a company official.

The third one would have a capacity of 600 MW, the newspaper said. It gave no other details.

The company was also seeking building contracts in Southeast Asian countries, the newspaper said, without elaborating.
