CBI officer jailed for graft
Jabalpur, May 30 (UNI) A special court has sentenced a CBI inspector to six month's imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 for demanding a bribe for absolving an NTPC official in a scam at the corporation's facility at Farraka in West Bengal.
As per the CBI charge sheet, V C Sharma -- posted at Bhopal -- demanded Rs 1 lakh from DGM Mohan Subedar.
On February 9, 2000, the Subedar couple taped a telephonic conversation with Sharma, wherein he wanted that the money be posted to him, and subsequently a complaint was lodged at CBI Headquarters.
Special Judge K K Tripathi awarded the punishment yesterday after finding him guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
