Bihar tops in atrocities on Dalits
Jalandhar, May 30 (UNI) The maximum number of cases of atrocities on Dalits are still reported from Bihar, National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) Deputy Chairman Fakir Bhai Waghela said today.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Waghela said Bihar still continued to top the list followed by the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh.
He said measures were being taken to bring down such incidents and ensure appropriate action against the guilty in the cases.
He said cases of atrocities were also reported from Punjab but no exact data was available with him in this regard.
He said that Punjab had initially delayed the enforcement of the Prevention of Atrocities Act in the state but now it was taking all steps in this regard as per the Act.
He said that in Jalandhar only eight cases of atrocities against dalits were pending investigation, while 11 others were pending before the court.
