Andrew Symonds to have wrist surgery today

Melbourne, May 30 (UNI) Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds will undergo surgery on his troubled left wrist here today.

Symonds often had his left wrist heavily taped and has been nursing the injury throughout the summer.

''He's got a flake in there that's lodged at some point in time,'' Australian team physiotherapist Errol Alcott was quoted as saying by Herald Sun.

''It's a bit of an occupational hazard of course, particularly for someone like him fielding in close,'' he added.

Symonds will, however, be back in action within six weeks, the daily said.

Symonds' manager Matthew Fenton blamed the injury on a heavy schedule.

''It's something when he plays a lot of cricket, he notices.

It's something that he has had for a quite a while. They (the players) now have got a decent break, it's an opportune time to look at (it),'' Fenton said.
