12 hurt in police action

Pathalgaon, Chhattisgarh, May 30 (UNI) More than 12 people were injured when police resorted to lathicharge today to disperse an agitated mob that rampaged the district hospital at Jashpur following the death of a six-year-old boy during treatment.

The mob, alleging negligence on the part of the doctors, set ablaze a doctor's car and damaged medical equipments, Superintendent of Police H P Rathore said, adding police resorted to lathicharge to bring the situation under control.

District Magistrate Durgesh Mishra said an inquiry was ordered into the violent incidents after the death of Muzaffar Husain, who was admitted yesterday with injuries on his leg.

To protest the police action, a bandh was being observed in Jashpur town, police said.
