Sensex loses volatility ends at 10,853.14

Mumbai, May 29: The volatility at the Sensex has been curtailed with smart trading.

Maintaing the positive trend from the previous close, the BSE Sensitve index today once again closed in green, showing a gain of 44 points at 10,853.14 points .

Earlier, the Sensex opened stronger by 79 points in the morning session and even touched a high of 10.992 points in the intra-day trade.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index, too, closed higher today at 3,214.90 points up by 5.30 points, as compared to the previous close.

All the sectoral indices were in the green with the CNX 100 trading at 3984.90 up by 0.19 per cent. CNX Midcap traded at 4511.60 up by 1.30 per cent, whereas CNX 500 traded at 2737.52 up by 0.41 per cent.

The top losers on the Sensex were GAIL, ITC, Grasim , Orient Bank, Sun Pharma, Hindustan Petroleum, Bharti Televentures, BPCL, Dr Reddy's and HDFC all losing between 2.5 to 4 per cnetw mark Top gainers on the NSE were IPCL, Tata Steel, HDFC, Satyam, L&T.Hero Honda, SAIL, HDFC and Jet Airways all gaining between 2 per cent to 4.5 per cent.

The top gainers on the NSE index were IPCL up by 4.42 per cent to Rs 248.05, Tata Steel up by 4.30 per cent to Rs 562.15, Satyam Computers up by 4.10 per cent to Rs 705.65, L&T up by 3.95 per cent to Rs 2444.85, Shipping Corporation of India up by 3.32 per cent to Rs 142.95, Jet Airways up by 2.97 per cent to Rs 784.40, Hero Honda up by 2.68 per cent to 848.20, SAIL up by 2.60 per cent to Rs 84.80, HDFC up by 2.33 per cent to Rs 1203.40, Hindalco up by 2.05 per cent to Rs 188.85.

The major losers on NSE were GAIL by 3.58 per cent at Rs 246, ITC by 2.87 per cent to Rs 177, Grasim by 2.78 per cent at Rs 1895, Oriental Bank Of Commerce by 2.61 per cent at Rs 216, Sun Pharmaceuticals by 2.53 per cent at Rs 849.50, Hindustan Petroleum by 2.43 per cent at Rs 322.85, Bharti Tele by 2.14 per cent at Rs 380, BPCL by 2.14 at Rs 411.55, Dr Reddy's Lab by 2.04 per cent at Rs 1410.80, HDFC bank by 2.04 per cent at Rs 758.15.

The breadth in the broader market was in favour of 548 advances, with respect to 365 declines out of total 913 scrips traded on NSE.
