Sam calls for clinical tests, documentation of Ayurveda formulations
Ahmedabad, May 29: National Knowlege Mission Chairman Sam Pitroda today launched online a wide range of ayurvedic medicines manufactured by Ayrunet Healthcare Pvt Ltd, set up by the Rs 700 crore Jayant Oils group at Vansajda, on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.
The company has started technical collaboration with Bangalore-based Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Tradition (FRLHT).
Speaking through videoconferencing from Chicago, Mr Pitroda described India as a ''storehouse of traditional knowlege,'' but called for clinical tests, field study and documentation of data to be accepted as modern medical science at international level.
He said ayurvedic system is indeed a science and it works, but there is need for education and training of rural health workers to dispense medical treatment at appropriate cost. He pointed out that National Rural Health Mission is also working for low-cost solution to quality healthcare.
Mr Pitroda, who is the founder-chairman of FRLHT, said that the tradition could well serve as the research and development (R&D) base for Ayurnet formulations.
On the occasion, FRLHT executive director Darshan Shankar said India has the potential to be a world leader in traditional medical sciences, but there is need for institutionalising the systems.
The products launched today include - capsules for treatment of piles, joints' pain, chocolate flavoured tonic for concentration, ointment for arthritis and muscular pain and cough syrup.
