S Easterlies continue to bring relief, mercury at 39 C

New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) Cool South Easterly winds continued to bring some relief from sultry weather here even as humidity levels rose to a high of 68 per cent.

The high speed South Easterly winds, which have been blowing in the capital since Friday evening, led to a drop in mercury to 39.0 Degrees C today, two degrees below normal.

On Saturday, the South Easterly winds had led to a drop in mercury to 39.6 Degrees C, one Degree below normal. The minimum too registered a drop to 25 Degrees C, from 27.4 Degrees C on Saturday.

The cool South Easterlies notwithstanding, a rise in humidity levels to 68 per cent meant that sultry conditions continued to prevail, especially during the afternoon.

The last week has seen a continuous rise in humidity levels in Delhi, from 35 per cent last Monday to 68 per cent today, contributing in a large measure to the sultry conditions in Delhi.

The onset of the South Easterlies, however, brought some succour to the people of Delhi from the high humidity.

The relief from sultry weather could stay tomorrow with the weathermen forecasting a partly cloudy sky with duststorms and thundershowers accompanied by squalls in some areas in the next 24 hours. They have, however, predicted a rise in maximum temperature tomorrow to 41 Degrees C.

The met office has, however, forecast the mercury to drop to 37 Degrees C by Thursday.
