Quota supporters stage demonstration; arrested
Mumbai, May 29: The Prakash Ambedkar-led Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM) today staged a ''rasta roko'' (road blockade) and demonstration at Hutatma Chowk in Fort area here in support of reservation in Government-aided higher educational institutions.
Mr Prakash Ambedkar, who is the grandson of Dr B R Ambedkar, led the demonstration where the participants shouted slogans in support of reservations and condemned the anti-reservationists.
''The SC/ST/OBCs are the oppressed section of the society on the basis of caste and reservations are an opportunity for their uplift.
We will not allow the opportunity to be lost and will ensure that reservations benefit the socially backward people in the rural part of the country,'' he told medipersons.
The demonstrators, whose protest created traffic disruptions at the Hutatma chowk junction, were later arrested by the police.
