Pondy assembly members take oath

Pondicherry, May 29 (UNI) The newly elected members of the territorial assembly took oath on the opening day of the 12th Pondicherry legislative assembly today.

All the 29 members took the oath in the presence of Mr A V Sreedharan, the Congress member from Palloor who was appointed the pro-tem Speaker. Earlier, Mr Sreedharan took the oath in the presence of Lt.Governor M M Lakhera at 'Rajnivas'.

As soon as the House assembled, the members stood up and observed two minutes silence to uphold the decorum of the House, following which assembly secretary Mr M Sivaprakasam read out the notification of the election Commission of India constitutiing the 12th Pondicherry legislative assembly and the Lt.Governor's order appointing Mr A V Sreedharan as the pro-tem speaker.

Following this, starting from Chief Minister N Rangasamy, all the members took oath.

Later, Mr Sreedharan adjourned the House for 0930 hrs on June one.

The election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker is slated to be held on that day.
