Nine die in China as fog causes multiple pile-up

BEIJING, May 29 (Reuters) Heavy fog caused a pile-up of 28 vehicles on an expressway in east China today, killing at least nine people and injuring 30, Xinhua news agency said.

There were 18 successive accidents between 0400 Hrs and 0600 Hrs a.m. within a three-km (two-mile) section of the highway linking the Anhui provincial capital of Hefei with Nanjing, capital of neighbouring Jiangsu province.

China has the highest annual road death toll in the world, with collisions and other accidents killing nearly 107,000 people last year.
