Mettur Dam creates new record
Tiruchirapalli, May 29 (UNI) The Stanley Reservoir across River Cauvery has created a new record with the water level in the dam remaining at over 100 feet for an uninterrupted 300 days.
A senior PWD official told UNI it was a new record for the 72-year -old dam, the lifeline of the Cauvery Delta district farmers.
Last year, the dam was in focus when it discharged surplus water continuously for 81 days surpassing the previous figure of 79 days in 1964.
Since its commissioning in 1934, the dam had a surplus for 34 years. Last year,it overflowed four times due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas and huge discharge from Karnataka's reservoirs.
