Meghalaya govt to decide on 'The Da Vinci Code' tomorrow
Shillong, May 29 (UNI) The Meghalaya government will decide tomorrow whether to ban the controversial Hollywood blockbuster 'The Da Vinci Code,' as several church leaders have raised their voice against screening of the movie in the state.
The General Administration Department (GAD) was scheduled to meet today to decide the fate of the film. However, GAD Minister H D R Lyngdoh today said that the ministry would arrive at a decision tomorrow.
'' We will meet tomorrow afternoon to take a decision on the issue, '' told newsmen here today.
He would announce the decision in the evening after discussions with the department officials.
'' I will be able to tell you whether the film will be cleared for screening or not only after the meeting tomorrow, '' said Mr Lyngdoh.
Several prominent church leaders in Christian majority Meghalaya had demanded to ban the film, even as the film hit the theatres elsewhere in the country following the clearance from the Central government.
'' We are against the film as its content is blasphemous, '' said Rev Dominic Jala, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church.
