Fidayeen arrested before he could attack convoy on JK highway
Srinagar, May 29 (UNI) Security forces and police thwarted a major tragedy when they arrested a fidayeen before he could ram a car fitted with explosives on a security force convoy on the Srinagar- Jammu national highway, official sources said.
They said a maruti zen car was stopped at Lethpora, about 15 km from here on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway last night.
However, after checking the documents the registration number JK01- 2055 of the car was found fake, sources said.
Later, explosives fitted with detonators and a battery was found in the car.
The militant confessed that he was to park the car on the highway to target the security force convoy coming from Jammu.
In a similar car attack by a fidayeen on a Border Security Force (BSF) vehicle last week on the Srinagar-Airport road, 26 BSF personnel were wounded.
Militants use stolen cars to carry out fidayeen and car bomb blasts in the valley.
