Eight houses collapse in Mangalore

Mangalore, May 29 (UNI) At least eight houses in Mogaveerapatna under Ullal police station in the district collapsed today, following torrentical rains which continued for the the fourth day.

Official sources said atleast another eight move houses were on the verge of collapse due to soil erosion resulting from the continue.

Six people -- five in Mangalore and one in Malpe -- were injured yesterday following incessant rain in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district.

District in-charge Minister of Dakshina Kannada B Nagaraja Shetty and Dr V S Acharya of Udupi held separate emergency meetings with the district officials and instructed the officers to take all precautionary measures to tackle any situation.

Police said no fresh incident of casualty was reported in Dakshina Kannada.
